Hi STU,
I have actually been reading the posts, all very interesting, somewhat helpful...But if you ask me, one of my options, at present, would be Navroz.
I pesonally think most of the recently mushroomed 'restaurants' fail to show and reflect 'the quality thinking' behind construction and somewhat can't help making you think that they were all built in a some sort of frenzy rush to make a 'quik fix', a business venture...qatga qaramasen toyhona :)...this isn't bad per se, but most of them fail to match the 'purpose' of the building with the 'architecture', o'zim ko'rganlarimdan masalan, Restaurant-XXX, sofiiskidigi: tashqarisidan all glitzy-flash, ichiga kirsen huddi soviet davrida qurilgan kommunalniy stolovoy'laga o'hshidi. Ili Versal'ni etishdi, i.e. Versal vs. Eski Shahar :), narhiyam arzonmas, 40.000 som deyishdi, adashmasam 40 emas, 60.000 som kishi boshiga.
Navroz'ga kese, unda qanaqadir o'ziga hos aurasi bor, grandiyoznost, vestibul'lani kengligi, pasdan yuqoriga chiqadigan zinalarini kengligi, torjestvennost bor. Epecially, the courtyard is beautiful, fountains, aligned gardens, cinematographic. Biza ukamni toyini qilgandik Navrozda, 2 yil oldin, undan keyin yana kosmeticheski remont qilib, zor qib qoyishibdi dib eshitdim. Aranjerovka, interior design'laniyam zor qilishgandi...i'm generally a person with an eye for detail and I particularly compared the dressings of chairs etc. with many other new places...Navroz's was much more grand...Menyu'laniyam kelishib o'ziz hohlagan narsalani qoysez boladi, a Versal'da adashmasam unaqa qilomis, ulada bor optionladan tanlis, that's what i heard. I might actully be doing my own wedding at Navroz, too late this smmer.
The other thing though, as mentioned already, it obviously depends on the number of guests/ invitees, i.e. for 150-200 people for example, Navroz would probably be a bit too big.
Equally, i totally agree with those who disagree and disprove the idea of a hotel-restaurants- it sounds to me...really hard to explain but, sort of 'cheap or low'- not financially of course... hotel is a place where everbody takes his 'friends' for a 'coffee'- not a place you want to get married at.:)
In any case, what's important and what really matters is your happiness, so get married, love each other, have loads & loads of 'coffee' (the one which is good for your heart) and be always happy! To'y bir kunda o'tadi ketadi. ;):).
Dear friends,
please share your ideas and experience with choosing a best location for an engagement and wedding banquet in Tashkent:
You may rate them according to: meals, service, ambiente etc..
Thanks in advance!

Excuse me? SInce when is it considered cheap and low? Maybe you are mixing up a MOTEL with a HOTEL.
A lot of weddings, a lot of great weddings and events abroad take place in nice hotels. There were great weddings in Tashkent too, but the problem is that the service most of the time sux.
Gosh, seriously. "friend for a "cofee" mush.

Nervnichat' qimen Landlady-honim, o'ziz etib turibsizu service sucks dib, as to the motel business, i don't of course mean it in absolute sense, just a personal opinion from my kowledge (not experence:)) of hotels (not motels:)) in Tashkent. Re: "friend for a "coffee""- nimasiga joniz chiqvotti, buam absolyut manodamas albatta, those who don't take caffeine, have "de-caf" or "orange juice without the juicy bits"...:) Do you like this version better?:)

Dva goda nazad dorogoy Milkman, I would have chosen a hotel over Navruz. Actually, I would have chosen any nice toyhona over Navruz. NAvruz is fine now, but a few years back, it was horrible.
Vi govorite chto spravlyat v hotel eto "nizko", kak eto mojet bit nizko? Ya ne ponimayu. Ya shitau chto mojno spravlyat gde udogno, hot vozle musorki, zdes nichego takogo. When it comes to bonding to people in love, even a wedding in a toilet is great.
Esli ya vas ne ponimau, to obyasnite pojaluista. ;)
Na samom dele standart servica i kachestva - luchshe vsego derjat hoteli - nachinaya ot 4* i konchaya 5* - immeno poetomu vse corporativnie meropriyatiya, konferenyiyi itd provodyat v otelyah. Vo pervih tam vestibyul i vhod prilichniy, horoshiy service i kachestvo edi namnogo vishe chem v obichnom restorane.
A ya mnogie krutie svadebniye restorani v tashkente viglyadyat - kak balerina na pomoike (izvinite za grubost). Vokrug - mesnost kak posle II WW, a zahodish - svadebniy restoran, neuzheli manageri ne dumayut kak ludi tuda podyezzhat budut, fotografirovatsya snaruji. Do etogo eshe ne dodumalis :(.

PS: Statuyi i dereva tam ne bilo :D
Prosto k tomu chto v tashe mnogo xoroshix restoranov, nado prosto obezditgorod za odin den', i reshitsja

Just curious- how much does it cost to rent that place? That's the fanciest place I have ever seen.

The best place ever to make the wedding is on the street. This is how they usually do in villages.
To melo, now you know why Uzbeks work their whole life just to spend in two-three nights...yes, some follow all the rules and end up with a three day wedding...then they work another couple of years to get rid of the debts. Had Uzbeks not done irrationally big weddings they would not have to migrate to Russia or South Korea for money.

I am well aware how they do it in villages. I am learning here how fancy uzbek weddings are done. :D

Well, I've been to a couple of german weddings and should say I better spend 10 times of that for an uzbek but a real wedding in way we understand it :D
@ melo: I am not sure, but I suppose about $ 80-100 / person

:D:D:D I really like your temperament Landlady (but can you change your nick pls, i don't like it), o'ziz erga tegmaganmsiz hali, rasmizzi pm qivorin...you never know what future might have in store for us;), i'm not joking, i mean it!
Of course, hotels are absolutely fine, ok I admit 'low' came out much stronger and not to the point, than what I actually was trying to mean. In many 'corporate cultures' especially in the west, and to some growing extent in our cultures as well 'hotel arrangements/events/parties' are and gaining momentum. But, you see for me hotel no matter how posh and plush and corporate and 'cutting edge' it seems, it still feels a hotel- a place of rush, a place where you pack and unpack your socks and toothtbrushes (whether they are Ralph Lauren branded or Kabul Textile)...do you see what I mean, you and I obviously know that this has nothing to do with the 'hotel eatery' and "friends" may not "drink" "their coffee or orange juice" there either, but for some 'weird' reason it just still feels...well, a 'hotel' to me...BUT 'low' it isn't, i take that one back sweetheart ok?:)
Navroz'ga kese, adashasiz, jaa siz ko'pirtirganchali yomonmasdi. Rasmlani ko'rsatomiman afsus.
And of course, when it comes to bonding two hearts, it's bonding itself and hapiness of those hearts- is all that matters- I couldn't have agreed with you more. But I would probably have difficulty stretching my imagination to as exotic places as 'musorki' and 'toilets' as an option for wedding, they could be ok for rough, wild, and dirty and spontaneous se* sessions...but not weddings.:)
Can you pm me your email and brave enough your te nr? :) A photo or two would be nice too...
Lots of Love
M

yeah, they are really small and no fun you're right...but they usually have money for a nice honeymoon trip somewhere to cuba, indonesia or jamaica...umm, ok no jamaica :-) ...but you know what i mean, they are not indebted after all those feasts...
have to say though when it comes up to me, i will not make it any smaller than any of my friends would. i wish i could do it smaller, but i wont :D
to melo, 8-10 k today is just right for a small fancy wedding as STU said. also add a couple of prominent artists or estrada singers it will make another 2-3 k...depending on the celebrity's popularity and cash you got on hand.

Agar xovli to'y o'tkazguday katta bo'lsa, zo'r fikr bu. Faqat to'y o'tkazishlar bilan shug'ullanadigan brigada topish kerak, oshpaz, oficiant, idish-tovoq yuvuvchilari bilan kelishadi.
lekin baribir ular o'zlari ishlab o'rgangan obstanovka bulmaganligi uchun qiynalishadi. to'yda kamchiliklar buladi. bitta yahshi tashkilotchi qarindoshlar faqat za kulisami ishlashi kerak.
unaqa mard qarindoshlariz bumasa umuman qimang hovlida to'y. yahshisi pulini to'lab, begonalardan talab qiling.
agar 1-2 qarindoshingiz yahshi bulganda ham, hovlida to'y qilib ulani tashkiliy ishlar bilan band qilib qo'ysangiz, ularga jabr qilgan bulasiz. ishyoqmasla pana-panada yururadi. bechora siz uchun jon kuydiradigan odamiz, to'yni qizig'iniyam ko'rmay, changga botib yurvuradi.
