New Year Trees :)

I remember how much happiness the trees granted me in my childhood. I also remember, my dad used to buy real ones until I was in grade 2-3, maybe. I was counting days to the New Year eve and the day when dad brings it in.

Then, when all that traditional reneissance and cultural revival began (and we were growing up), dad quit buying the real big ones saying Uzbeks cant decorate the tree. God, I was too upset and cried, too. Eventually, the real ones were replaced by tiny fake ones and later on we did not have them at all. :(

Ok, it was a personal story preamble. Now, here in this thread I want us to share pictures of various New Year trees. There is such a variaety of them in the US, but I'd love seeing those from other countries too.

Please post.

PS: First one - in my workplace, last one- in the lobby of my building. There is a flower shop nearby, and trees there are speechless and amazing.

I don't decorate New Year tree. There's no point in decorating it since i don't celebrate New Year.

We have evergreen tree every year :)
every year we get real tree (thats usually about 2 feet higher than I am :rolleyes: )
we havent got one this year yet,but as soon as we get it and decorate it I will post pics here :D

This is Omar's tree. We do not call it New Year or Christmas tree. We look at it as a nice decoration :) Omar likes the colors and likes to play with them.

Interesting thread, I must say...

Of course, just as many other things / traditions whether habitual or cultural, it is wise to exercise these or similar other festive procedures consciuosly, understanding the meaning... I am sure everybody on this forum knows that this tree or a 'Christmas tree' as it is correctly referred to, is a symbol of Christianity and is actually decorated for Christmas rater than the New Year, except for the ex-Soviet cultures where obviously, as a result of 'religious non-tolerance' of the Soviet system, the tree evolved to become a symbol of New Year...

Looking back to my childhood, I can't help quite fondly recalling almost identical sequence of memories vis-a-vis the 'tree' story of NEZABUDKA, i.e. decorating it every year, and seeing the tree going down in size year after year and then going out of the window completely. To be honest I was said, then. And I also admit, that I think it used to be fun and it really did mean New Year...and in this sense, I wouldn't mind to see that sort of New Year spirit/ sign staying around for a while signalling and reminding of the new year, new plans, expectations etc., etc......

Having said that, there is always a dozen f***wits here who would want to argue that 1st Jan is not actually, "our New Year" and so on. Well, that's my hint then for you, for the next potential thread :-)....

3 years ago, they decorated a very big one in Ferghana. Later I found out that it was the biggest in Uzbekistan that year. I must have its pix, I'll try to find and post. It's an amazing thing, actually, no matter wut "those" say. Anyways, I like decorated tree on New-Year's Eve. We used to gather with friends around the biggest tree in the city on New year's eve at 00:00. It's very cool thing...

And the New Year Tree is one of those things what my son is amazed of, he loves it, he loves to wake up in the morning of new year's eve an look for presnets under the tree. Living in the west country I even can't imagine to take this pleasure away from him, when all the kids in his kindergarden nowdays only talk about coming hollidays.
Yesterday there was the pre celebration of Christmas in the kindergarden of my son because they are closed on christmas hollidays and there were children from very religious muslim families among others. You should have seen how happy were their children, mostly when Santa Claus came in and gave gifts to them.

i agree! i grew up celebrating New Year's. I remember decorating elka every year and going to "Bolshaya Elka" and all other places where my parent's organizations used to organize those kind of things. I also remember when I turned 8-9, the novelty of New Year and Ded Moroz wore out but my parents used to make me decorate elka anyways because of my 4 year old brother. We decorated elka till my kid brother turned 8-9, and then -- it was like one person would say: "I vote for not decorating elka this year" and whole family was like "I second it" :lol:. It was cute though. We used to sing songs and walk around our elka. :) and my best friends would come to our house and we would compare the decorations that our elka had and their didn't and vice versa. i still remember one of my friends breaking a little elka decoration, it was my favorite, a little "chukcha" in red coat. i remember crying, and saying "Babat (Muhabbat :lool:, broke my chukcha :lool: how PC is that? :lol:)"

She was shaking, could not talk and was staring at her mom totally freaked out. :rolleyes: Sestra i mama moya ochen ispugalis i privodili yeyo v sebya. Malishka nasha is too sensitive...

Festival of lights at mormons temple nearby. They also have annual Xmas trees exibition with those representing different regions and countries.

2 years ago when I visited the place, there was one decorated with uzbek muppets and different suveniers. Cant find pictures (trees were breathtakingly festive), if so, would definitely post them.
