Nezami was from Ganja, which was located in Aran and at those times was part of Iran, Ganja is now located in the republic of Azerbaijan. Nezami wrote the famous Leyli and Majnun in Persian, his work had inspired Armenian and Georgian writers who wrote similar epics. Shirin and Farhad epic may have been inspiration to Leyli and majnun, the epic of Shirin and Farhad had occured in the sassanid era (third till senth century) but was written afterwards. there is an obvious similarity between the leyli and Majnun of Nezami and the man in the panterskin of Rustaveli , however the latter has also inspirations from the Avestan stories.
