Volunteerism in Uzbekistan

I am interested in opportunities to volunteer in Tashkent and Uzbekistan overall. The only activity I know so far (which is already eliminated) is of foreign origin, i.e. Peace Corps volunteers.

But I wonder if there are organizations, NGOs like, in Tashkent that would be interested in recruting volunteers to work with orphans, eldelry or disabled, for example.

The thing is I have a friend in Tashkent who is a young stay-at-home mother and looking forward to doing something good - taking orphan kids to playground, movies, theaters, or assisting eldelry purchasing grocery, etc.

If you know of any organization where she might be helpful, please post their contacts here. The only charitable orgs that I've ever heard of in Tashkent are Mehr Nuri and SOS villalge. I would highly appreciate if there is anyone who can help my friend getting involved with them. She is a very good person who recently became a very dedicated and loving mom and is willing to help other kids.

I do not think Kamolot is a good place for her to be. It is very nationalistic (in my opinion) and the girl is a modern Russian lady.

We have a lot of NGO's that working with orphans, but why exactly them, mean you can esaily find NGO that works for exaple in HIV preventing field, or careing about HIV infected people.

I now that Uzbek Assosoation on Reproductive Health was makeing project on Orphans careing.

So aniway If you need something on HIV programms Just let me know, I can easily help you, it's now we are having Global Fund Project.

Juddayam normal qabul qilishadi.
Fataq yodingizda tuting Uzb da volonterlik qilish oson ish emas.
Bilmadim nima uchun bazida hatto Univeringizda shuni deb bazi muammolar yuzaga keladi. Judayam shipetilniy vopros bu.

THank you dear. Since she is a young mom and would attend such events with her infant, she might be more willing to work with kids, orphans and/or eldelry rather than HIV positive people..

Stigma is high in Uzb I know... In her case it is also about overprotection of her son.

If the sole purpose is to help people in need she can just help those elderly people in her town who do not have relatives and help. And I do not think she needs to be involved with specific group or organization to do so. There are so many lonely elderly people who can be helped out in some way. Just a thought. :D
