What I look for in a jewelry, or any other accessory, is its cuteness. An inexpensive, but rather cute thing, might easily catch my eye and I bye it. I, actually, do like sterling silver that does not get dark. Macy's has a great variety of those.

In contrast to me, however, my mom just loooooooves gold. And she is so picky about it. What I know for sure is that the heavier is the item, the more she'll like it. And that'd be the best gift for her. This my travel home, I got her a chain with a round flat pendant that says "Mom" on it. I was quite lucky with the price. Since I cant yet afford comprehensive diamond item (and that one had diamond pieces on it), I could only buy it on sale that provided me with a $150 discount.

JUst a useful advice for others in the US: if you look for jewelry, watch for sales at Macy's. They have quite good dicounts then.

depending on the type of silver used in jewelry, some may be harmful to health. so it's advisable to make sure that the jewelry matches up with health standards before the purchase. especially if you are buying it from unauthorized place like malls or stores etc.

btw, with diamond you never go wrong!:D
