that's terrible :(. How is he now? alive?
anybody in Ohio here? they shot him just because he was talking in another language other than English? should be some other reasons behind.
I hope he will recover soon......

That is terrible. The story almost sounds too stupid to be real. There seems to me no clear motive except that maybe these guys were evil racists.

Muslim man shot in possible hate crime

CLEVELAND -- A Muslim man shot at a gas station remained in critical condition in a hospital yesterday as police and FBI officials investigated whether the attack was a hate crime.

People were taunting Fazliddin Yakubov, 49, just before he was shot three times in the lower abdomen as he stood near a gas pump Friday night, said Julia Shearson, executive director of the Cleveland Chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations.

People at the station might have mistaken Yakubov, who is a native of the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan, as an Arab because he spoke the Uzbek language and then recited a Muslim prayer in Arabic when he became frightened by a group milling around, Shearson said.

Perhaps three to five people were at the station, according to police reports.

The shooting and some of the people present can be seen on a security video. No arrests have been made.

Yakubov felt the people at the station were mocking him, said his son, Farhadbek "Frank" Yakubov, 22, who was paying for fuel and heard his father shouting at him to hurry up.

Several males were mimicking Arabic speech, the victim's son said. "They started making jokes, making fun of my father, his body language."

Three people killed in a car crash near Lake Pleasant are believed to be residents of Uzbekistan, a country in central Asia, authorities said Wednesday.

Positive identification of the three, as well as notification of relatives, is pending, said Bart Graves, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The head-on collision, which involved four vehicles, occurred about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday on Arizona 74, west of the lake, closing the highway in both directions until 4:18 a.m. Wednesday as DPS officers completed their investigation, he said.
