KAHN PLEASED WITH UNDERDOG TAG

OLIVER KAHN has spoken of his side, Bayern Munich's match-up with Real Madrid in the Champions League, comparing the Santiago Bernabeu to a 'pleasant hell'.
The German keeper is obviously impressed with Real's stadium and team and expects a good match-up between the European giants.

Kahn said: "The Bernabeu is an impressive stadium, and if it is a hell, it is of course, the most pleasant hell that football could be played in.

"It is one of the best stages in the world and any football player dreams about playing there."

Despite going into the tie as underdogs, Kahn believes this will work in the favour of Bayern.

Kahn said: "It is the best thing that could happen to us. In the last few years, whenever we have played a team that was favorite, we have always won.

"In situations like this one, we have found much motivation. I'm delighted Real Madrid are favourite. In addition, do not forget that the last year we were able to defeat Real three times.

"I recognise that our rivals are stronger than they were a year ago. It is the team that plays the best football in Europe.

"But we are not scared of this game, although we recognise the potential of our rivals."

When asked if they had done any special preparation for the game, Kahn replied: "No, for several reasons.

"Firstly, it is the fifth confrontation in a short period between us, we know every detail of every player.

"The second reason, because the players of Madrid are brilliant, they do things that we've never seen done, therefore, what preparation can you have to avoid those geniuses?"

Asked who would swing the tie, Kahn replied: "What Bayern cannot count on is Effenberg just like Madrid cannot count on Figo or Raul."

Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said: "It is a great opportunity for us, because everybody says that Real Madrid is favorite.

"In my opinion, Figo and Raul are two of the best players not only in Europe, but in the world. They are most dangerous and it will be necessary to have them both well-taken care of.

"We will do a flexible marking job on them. I mean that it will not be good enough to stick with one man on them, but two or three will have to cover them."
