Michael Owen looks set to miss England's match with Greece after injuring his hamstring in Liverpool's 1-0 defeat of Spurs.
The striker, who has scored 14 goals so far this season, limped off 17 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute for Jari Litmanen.

Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier confirmed every Englishman's worst fears after the game, telling BBC Radio Five Live he expected Owen to be out "for a number of weeks".

The news means England will almost certainly without Owen, a hat-trick hero against Germany, when they take on Greece at Old Trafford on 6 October.

Houllier said: "I am disappointed to say Michael has pulled his hamstring and will be out for a number of weeks.

"It was the only sad part of a wonderful game with Spurs.



Owen: Out for three weeks


"I was very sorry for Michael who has been flying since the start of the season.

"I think he will need at least three weeks to get over this injury."

Owen was sidelined for a number of months last season with a similar injury.

He received special treatment to help him overcome his persistent hamstring problems.

This latest blow will leave the 21-year-old devastated after playing the best football of his life for both Liverpool and England.
