again ManUnited RuleZZZ!!!!

Tottenham 3-5 Manchester United
Champions Manchester United staged a magnificent comeback to overwhelm Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Spurs had been 3-0 up at half time after outplaying their opponents.

Dean Richards made a dream debut by scoring the early opener and Les Ferdinand and Christian Ziege added further goals.

Yet United were a transformed side after the interval and simply swept Tottenham aside.

Andy Cole, Laurent Blanc, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Juan Sebastian Veron and David Beckham scored as United completed a remarkable comeback.

Tottenham fully deserved their interval lead. The White Hart Lane faithful cannot have seen a finer 45 minutes from their side in many years.

I'm not saying exactly what I said to them at half time - why am I always asked that? - but the essence of it was to stop feeling sorry for themselves

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson
Their five-man midfield dominated United's quartet and Ferdinand and Sheringham were a constant threat in attack.
And £8m signing Richards made a fabulous debut as Tottenham restricted United to speculative efforts.

He marked Ruud van Nistelrooy adroitly and scored after only 15 minutes with a close-range header from a Ziege corner.

Tottenham were soon 2-0 up. Poyet chipped the ball over United's static defence and Ferdinand spun past Blanc as the Frenchman vainly tried to play offside.

Ferdinand kept his cool to score with a low drive past Fabien Barthez in the United goal.

The crowd were cheering every Tottenham pass by the time the third goal went in.

Poyet was again the provider, picking up a clever Freund pass before delivering a sublime right-wing cross that Ziege dived to head home from six yards.

Yet United, doubtless motivated by a half-time rollicking from manager Sir Alex Fergsuon, were sensational in the second half.

Mikael Silvestre came on to inject pace down the left side, in place of Denis Irwin, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Butt as United played with three up front.

A great game? I can't take much comfort from that because I've got to look at my own team and we're in the business of trying to win football matches

Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle
The visitors pulled back a goal within a minute of the restart with a Cole header from Beckham's cross.
United were showing far more urgency and purpose and added another when Blanc outjumped Ledley King to head a Beckham corner home.

Tottenham, so assured in the first-half, were now looking jittery.

Van Nistelrooy scored the equaliser with yet another headed goal before Scholes and Solksjaer combined to play in Veron, who shot left-footed past Sullivan.

The culmination of a magnificent United comeback came three minutes from time.

England captain Beckham struck an imperious right-footed shot past Sullivan from just inside the area.

REDS RULE ON TYNESIDE

LIVERPOOL produced a polished display at St James` Park, with goals by John Arne Riise and Danny Murphy giving them a 2-0 win over Newcastle.
The Reds were content to sit back for the most part, but had the killer instinct when required, as goals at either end of the game by a Norwegian and an Englishman handed Gerard Houllier`s men a welcome three points.

Newcastle dominated possession for the most part but their play lacked the incisiveness that has been evident at home this season, and Liverpool clinically took advantage with excellent finishing.

As has been a problem on a number of occasions this season, The Magpies were guilty of giving the ball away in their own third and Rob Lee was the culprit on this occasion as he presented the ball to Riise and he strode forward before unleashing an unstoppable drive into top corner.

The Reds seemed content to concede territory to the hosts, but for all their superiority Newcastle were unable to find a way through an organised Liverpool back-line.

Newcastle`s best efforts came from out wide, with crosses and set-pieces the only things that tested Liverpool.

Robbie Elliott almost produced an equaliser on 20 minutes as he crossed for Alan Shearer and the former England captain showed great awareness to dummy the ball to Craig Bellamy, but his header lacked power and fell straight to Jerzy Dudek.

Riise was proving a continued threat at the other end, as he collected a pass from Gary McAllister and released Robbie Fowler, but he was denied by a brave save from Shay Given.

Newcastle`s aerial threat was again in evidence before the interval, as Andy O`Brien somehow headed wide from six yards after being found by Nolberto Solano.

Liverpool skipper Fowler was striving for form throughout the game and he thought he had put his name on the scoresheet immediately after the break but his joy at converting an Emile Heskey pass was cut short by a linesman`s flag.

In stark contrast to the first-half, Liverpool dominated play and were a real threat after the interval - with McAllister producing a superb pass to release Heskey, but he lost control when racing clear. Murphy then created a chance out of nothing on the right, but flashed an effort across goal.

Newcastle responded, again with an aerial chance but Elliott headed straight at Dudek from close-range.

Bobby Robson changed things and threw Lomano Tresor Lua-Lua into the action and he almost created an equaliser, but the lively Craig Bellamy was denied by Sami Hyypia.

Liverpool dealt Newcastle a sucker punch in the last ten minutes when Murphy raced clear before showing excellent composure to stroke the ball past an exposed Given and seal the points.

Not Bekham but Liverpool lifts England ;)
