AS Roma, Panathinaikos FC and Arsenal FC all booked their passage to the second group stage of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.
Roma in front
Roma confirmed their place in the next stage as they drew 1-1 away to Group A leaders Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabйu stadium. Panathinaikos went ahead in Athens through a 31st-minute goal from Emmanuel Olisadebe and Michael Konstantinou doubled their advantage on the hour.

Henry clincher
Arsenal defeated Mallorca 3-1 at Highbury stadium. Robert Pires and Dennis Bergkamp put the London club in control with two goals in three minutes shortly after the hour. Бlvaro Novo pulled a goal back for Mallorca on 74 minutes but Thierry Henry clinched matters with a stoppage-time strike.

Exciting conclusion

Liverpool FC lead the group by one point from Boavista FC and BV Borussia Dortmund following the Reds' 1-1 draw at Boavista and Dortmund's 1-0 defeat of FC Dynamo Kyiv. In Porto, Danny Murphy's 17th-minute free-kick put Liverpool in front but Silva levelled for the home side with a 61st-minute header. Dortmund owed their success over Kyiv to a Tomбљ Rosicky strike on 34 minutes.

Hope for Lazio
It is also tight in Group D, where S.S. Lazio retained hope of progress with a 1-0 victory over Galatasaray SK in Rome. Dejan Stankovic scored the winning goal on 76 minutes with a low 25-metre drive. FC Nantes Atlantique moved top of the group with a goalless draw at PSV Eindoven. The French champions have eight points, PSV and Galatasaray seven and Lazio six.

Lokomotiv secured first win
Finally, in Group A's other match, FC Lokomotiv Moscow secured their first victory of the competition and did so in style, defeating RSC Anderlecht 5-1 in Brussels. The victory lifted them above Anderlecht into third place in the group.
