FDI An investment that gives a company from one country "controlling" interest in an enterprise in another country.

"Controlling" need not imply full control; rather it is to distinguish passive or portfolio investments in which the owner cannot and does not seek to influence the management of the enterprise whose shares he owns.

The IMF considers an investment to be "direct" (i.e. controlling) if the ownership share is 10% or larger.

This is for FDI. But countries with Transition Economies have usually problems with attracting
FDI or investments in general. If, you know that it's good but if not it might be a starting point.

Look, you'd go to the IMF, World Bank or EBRD website and find out whatever you want to. Also you can get something in UN and Soros foundation.

Hi womeniser. you can go to the WTO site and see their on-line publications. I know that that have the whole book on FDIs in Transition and Developing Economies. The book not only provides a conceptual background but also gives a lot of interesting data.
