LAUNCH OF NEW VERSION OF CER’s WEBSITE
Center for Economic Research (Tashkent, Uzbekistan) is proudly announcing the launch of new version of CER website. Please visit our newly updated and redesigned website at www.cer.uz. This is a unique web resource providing comprehensive and objective information on current economic situation in Uzbekistan. This website is one of the most important means for securing involvement of a wider audience into a national policy dialogue and early warnings. It is designed to enlarge the audience who could get access to the most updated information on Uzbekistan and enable a wider audience to participate in the dialogue on current problems of economic and social transformation and human development in Uzbekistan.
Center for Economic Research (CER) is a non-profit research institution established in April 1999 (Tashkent, Uzbekistan). Structural components of the Center have been created and developed with assistance of international development institutions. The Center aims at providing policy advice to the Government of Uzbekistan and conducting research for other development institutions on key issues of economic and social policy; contributing to the national capacity building and raising public awareness on socio-economic issues.
The primary objectives of the CER for the current period are as follows: development and piloting on the basis of the CER a rational modality for management and financing of independent research institutions and development of a relevant legislative package; improvement of quality of research and policy advice by means of elaborating a new scheme for preparing reports based on wide dialogue and participatory approach; and achievement of sustainability in CER’s activities.
Center conducts research and provides policy recommendations and analysis on a variety of supra-national economic and social policy problems, including corporate governance and finance, financial markets, labor market development, restructuring of natural monopolies, legal and regulatory reform, trade policies, economic aspects of civil service reform, reform of public sector, public finance, and social safety nets, poverty and inequality under transition, economic restructuring and growth etc. All those issues coincide with thematic scope and the professional agenda of a possible partnership, supported by the Program.
Center has a wide range of projects implemented with the financial support from different international financial and development institutions, including WB, DFID, TACIS, Open Society Institute and other international foundations; the main goals of these projects are improvement of socio-economic policy, to contribute to the national capacity building through formal and informal training, to raise public awareness on economic development issues, as well as other aspects of development strategies and policies including all development aspects - politics, mass media, society, ICT development strategy formulation etc.
The website contains up-to-date information on social-economic reforms in Uzbekistan, statistical data, research papers prepared by CER and other publications including most of the reports and publications both in Russian and in English.
At the First Republican Internet-Festival, the website of the Center for Economic Research was awarded the Prize as the Best science related web site.
