hjohn, NBU has very bad reputation.
Just be very careful with money in Uzb-n. Our gov-t is nothing but a bunch of crooks!
So again be very and very careful I know thousands of companies who lost forever their money in Karimov's Uzbekistan.
If you have more questions, please ask!
Best Regards.
Siege.

old but intersting topic
Of course it is possible to open such bank accounts
if you are a foreigner then NO problem
don't worry
anyone can go to any bank and open personal account
franckly speaking, I'll recommend ABN AMro for foreigners, less problem but high tariffs

Hi, of course it is possible to open an account for foreigners. But why? What kind of investment are you going to bring? Tell me more and I can give You more appropriate way to do it. Because if You are not familiar with the pecularities of local market, You'd better learn first.

Now debit cards are mostly being used in Uzbekistan, but credit cards which are opened in other states can be used in supermarkets of Uzb.

ABN AMRO does not open a bank accounts for individuals. They only do corporate business. I.E. first they involve your company as a client, then will open a bank account for you. No more other ways with them. For private accounts please refer to KDB, Kapital or Ipak Yuli. These guys are doing all right, although there is always room for improvement.

HI
You can look at www.bank.uz (http://www.bank.uz). There you will find all info about every bank of Uzbekistan. Unfortunately most sites of Uzbek banks are really rarely updated. But on this website (http://www.bank.uz) the most recent info about banks is available! The site has 2 languages: Uzbek and Russian

I wouldn't say this is the best website. Poorly designed and loads slowly. I prefer Uzreport.com for fresh news on banking and finance. But you better be a daily reader, otherwise they go to paid archive after several days.

There were some technical problems with this site that's why it was loading no fast as needed. But in the near future the speed of loading will signifincantly improved! The site Bank.uz as I understand is focusing on publishing information for wide public so the never gonna turn to paid informational resource
